The Abbotsford REAL Team is a cross functional group of people who are interested in supporting international new hires and their families who come to work at ARH. The team is comprised of a director, client services, spiritual car, admin support and nurses.
To understand the needs and where support might be provided, 25 recently hired staff and their families were invited to a Friday ‘welcome’ supper. They told the stories of their experiences. The event helped the REAL team plan the supports and information needed to ease the newcomers into the community. The Team also distributed information packages, offered mentoring, arranged for volunteers to meet newcomers at the airport, provided temporary housing, helped with school registration for the new hires’ children, and assisted in job searches for their spouses.
