Requirements

Examples of traits of an ideal volunteer candidate include but are not limited to:

  • 18 years of age and older
  • Excellent communication skills. English as a proficiency
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Has empathy for what patients/residents, clients may be going through and is willing to learn
  • Are outgoing and friendly
  • Works well independently and as a part of a team
  • Are realistic about their ability to commit to volunteering (ideally 6-month commitment)
  • Available one time per week on a consistent day for 2-3 hours

Application Process

  1. Please review the volunteer opportunities list located in the downloads section of this page. Please note not all volunteer programs will have vacancies for new applicants.
  2. Application forms can be downloaded from this webpage and are available to be picked up at the front Information Desk at Peace Arch Hospital.
  3. Completed application forms can be dropped off at the front Information Desk at Peace Arch Hospital or faxed to the number listed on the bottom of the application form.
  4. Select applicants will be contacted by the Manger or Coordinator of Volunteer Resources for an interview. Placement decisions will be based on the applicant’s personal attributes and the availability of a suitable placement at a mutually agreeable time. If an applicant is not selected for an interview applications will be kept on file for six months and reviewed regularly.
  5. Successful applicants will be required to provide two references and a criminal records check.
  6. Approved volunteers must attend a mandatory volunteer orientation provided by Volunteer Resources at PAH. Dates and times will be provided by Volunteer Resource employees.
  7. Following completion of all of the above mentioned processes volunteers will be assigned to a mutually agreeable volunteer role and role specific orientations will be arranged.

High School Volunteer Program (Junior Auxiliary)

We are recruiting enthusiastic, outgoing high school students who have time to volunteer this summer 2012 with the Junior Auxiliary program. We will only be accepting applications for a limited time so it is important to read all the documents provided in the list below and ensure you are aware of the dates and deadlines involved.

Please note volunteer placements are limited but we wish all applicants the best of luck. Thank you for your interest.

Peach Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society

The Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society, a non profit organization, provides philanthropic service within the hospital and community, fundraises to purchase equipment, sponsors patient programs and provides patient/resident comfort and care. Auxiliary operated initiatives such as the hospital gift shop, gift cart and superfluity shop require a regular, consistent commitment to volunteering usually one time per week.

Community hospital volunteers

We work with several community partners including White Rock/South Surrey Hospice, Vine Youth Clinic and spiritual care who provide services within the hospital.
