Ever wonder if what you’re feeling and thinking is something more than the typical stuff connected with being a teen or young adult? Or if you are a parent, a friend or a professional who works with young people, maybe you’ve been wondering and concerned about someone you care about.

Check it outMindcheck.ca is a website to help young people across the province figure out if what they are feeling, thinking or how they are behaving are just part of the regular challenges and stresses of the life-phase they’re going through, or if they are something more. It then connects people to support early and quickly. Support includes

  • education
  • self-help tools
  • website links
  • a chat link
  • assistance in connecting to local professional resources

The site is interactive, easy to use, a good source of information and a great place to check out how you’re feeling through confidential screening quizzes.

Seeking community

Having struggled with symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder and depression since she was a young girl, Jessica Bruhn (photo) knows first hand how valuable mindcheck.ca can be for young people.

"I was on the internet quite a bit to seek some kind of community. Had mindcheck.ca been around back then I would have not only known I was not alone, but that experiencing anxiety and low mood is common, treatable and that I could talk to other people facing the same challenges,” Jessica Bruhn, F.O.R.C.E. Society for Kids’ Mental Health Youth in Residence Peer Support Worker.

About the website

The website initially launched in 2010 by Fraser Health, has recently been redesigned, and has just been expanded to become a provincial resource, thanks to a recent partnership with the Provincial Health Service Authority’s BC Mental Health and Addiction Services and funding from the RBC Children’s Mental Health project.
