Queen’s Park Care Centre is a three-storey building with beautiful gardens located in a quiet area in central New Westminster.

All residential beds are located in two units on the second floor.  A main floor cafeteria is available to staff and visitors. Fraser Health operated site.

How do I access residential care?

Access to subsidized residential care units is through a Home Health assessment. For more information on subsidized units, contact the Home Health office nearest you. Please do not contact the Operator directly regarding subsidized units.

Building amenities

A wide variety of support services and activity programming is provided. Residents have access to social workers; dentist and hygienist; physiotherapists; occupational therapists; recreational therapists; music therapist; pastoral care coordinator and aquatic services. Daily lab services are provided by RCH lab staff.

Language, culture, religious affiliations

Spiritual care is available to assist residents and their families in maintaining and enhancing their spiritual life. We offer bi-monthly worship for Roman Catholics, Sunday afternoon worship for Protestants, and two ecumenical services for everyone.

Our Coordinator of Spiritual Care offers counseling to residents and their families and provides a monthly memorial service for families whose loved ones have passed away.

Many of our staff speak different languages, and are encouraged to speak their language with residents and their families.

YES: Nov 2010 to Nov 2013

Accreditation is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their patients and clients, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada or the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Philosophy of care

To play a vital role in the health care community of New Westminster by providing a centre of geriatric excellence.

To maintain the integrity of residents in the areas of health, privacy, intimacy, dignity and independence to the greatest extent possible. We strive to provide supportive care within a congregate living environment for those persons unable to reside within community or other settings.

Type of accommodation

Total beds: 214; 149 publicly subsidized residential care beds; 64 sub-acute beds; 1 respite bed.

Basics include bed, dresser, lamp, towels and linen

You may also bring a radio, TV, small photos and knick knacks

Items to bring include personal clothing, toiletries, money for comforts

Cost

Residents pay 80% of their after-tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.

Special recreation opportunities

Our recreation programs provide an opportunity to engage in leisure activities of one's choice.

Large group programs have a significant social component, and include group exercise programs, board games, pub nights, afternoon teas, visiting entertainers, and community outings.   Other services include a monthly newsletter and specific programs by referral.

Accessibility

Parking immediately to the west of the main care centre entrance and in the parking lot adjacent to the care centre.

We cannot accommodate motorized scooters, however electric wheelchair use is acceptable with appropriate assessment and approval.

We are elevator-equipped for access to the other floors.

Pet policy

Pet visitation program through Queen’s Park Care Centre’s Volunteer Services. Families may bring small pets to visit their family member.

Smoking policy

Non-smoking building. Smoking is only permitted in the smoking gazebo, located on the ground level.

Safety/security features

24 hour on-site security attendant, electrical outlets for wheelchairs, lighted pay parking. Note: Electric Scooters not permitted.

Neighbourhood/community amenities

Close proximity to RCH allows access to access acute care resources. The TransLink community shuttle bus makes scheduled stops on-site and connects with Sky Train and other transit services.  Downtown New Westminster shopping district is nearby, and Queen’s park is across the street.

Any other amenities

Residents have access to a hair dresser twice a week.  A podiatrist and optometrist visit several times a year.
