Please take the time to read carefully. Students, faculty and instructors must complete the required sections below prior to starting practice education experiences. You may be asked to provide proof of completion at any time.

Part 1: Orientation checklist

All students and faculty must complete and submit the orientation checklist to your educational institution and keep up-to-date on all applicable pre-requisites to be eligible for practice education placements (including renewal requirements).

Mandatory education modules for B.C. Lower Mainland health authorities

These mandatory orientation modules are available online via Learning Hub and must be completed before any practice education experience begins. Your educational institution must maintain your records. 

Mandatory education modules for Fraser Health

Additional mandatory education for students that are required to mobilize patients, use glucometers/IV infusion pumps or prepare transport, dispense or administer high alert medications during their practice experiences.

Part 2: Confidentiality 

  1. Read the Fraser Health Confidentiality Policy. 
  2. Sign the Confidentiality Acknowledgement Form and submit the original copy as instructed on the form.
  3. Complete the Fraser Health Information Privacy and Confidentiality online course.

Part 3: Local practice setting orientation

Each practice setting has specific orientation requirements for their areas that are included in the HSPnet destination profile. Educators supporting the student placement should review practice setting specific requirements with students prior to start date.

Print and bring the local practice area orientation checklist to guide you through your first day. Make arrangement for orientation at your practice setting prior to start date.

Dress code varies by practice setting and profession. Please refer to the Professional Image policy and local practice setting guidelines. 

Part 4: Windows user account and email

All students and faculty with groups of students are required to have a Windows user account and Fraser Health email.  

Follow the required steps to set up a Fraser Health Windows user account and email. Allow eight weeks to set-up these accounts. 

Part 5: Computer training

Each practice setting has a destination profile in HSPnet which lists what technology application, access and training is required by students (e.g. electronic documentation). Visit our Computer Training page to learn more.

Part 6: Clinical care standards and protocols

Review our clinical standards and protocols that may apply to your specific profession or local practice setting.

Part 7: Photo ID and parking

All students and faculty must wear visible educational institution identification badge at all times in any Fraser Health location (photo ID preferred). 

Faculty can email parking@fraserhealth.ca to arrange for temporary parking passes two weeks prior to the start date. Please provide the number of students, exact dates and specific Fraser Health location. Passes will be mailed to the instructor or can be picked up. The parking pass entitles you to purchase a ticket at the reduced staff rate.

Exceptions

  • Abbotsford Regional Hospital - contact Impark at 1-877-909-6199 to arrange student parking
  • Burnaby Hospital - students can use their school identification to receive staff parking rates
  • Delta Hospital, Fraser Canyon Hospital and Mission Hospital - free parking
