Hepatitis

Bookmark and Share

BC’s rate of hepatitis is four times the national average, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.  The most common types – A, B and C – are not very difficult to avoid.  These are all viruses, and we have immunization for A and B.

In the case of Hep A, contaminated food and water is the most common source, which is why you hear on the news about restaurants and their infected workers.

In the case of B and C, sharing needles is the most common cause.

People who have Hepatitis have a liver disease, one of the more common reasons for needing a liver transplant.
