The generic operator identification (ID) for glucose meters used by students and faculty instructors is changing in Fraser Health. The new ID is FHA004. Please note this operator ID is not for wide circulation; it is only for use by students and faculty instructors practicing in Fraser Health.
Why is this important?
Identification is changed every year on April 1 to ensure annual competency is achieved. The ID change became effective on April 1, 2018 with compliance expected by May 1, 2018.
How will these impact students and faculty instructors?
The new ID should be provided to all students and faculty instructors only after annual competency or initial orientation is complete for the Accu-Chek Inform II Glucose Meter. Students and faculty instructors must complete the orientation requirements prior to their student placements.
What are the steps for initial orientation and annual competency?
Orientation and annual competency requires educational institutions to complete the steps below before providing the generic operator ID to students and faculty instructors.
- Facilitate learning for students and faculty instructors using the online Fraser Health training module (15 to 20 minutes in length) called Accu-Chek® Inform II Glucose Meter/Glucometer in the LearningHub.
- Fraser Health staff will not train students and faculty instructors to use the glucose meter.
- Students and faculty instructors will successfully complete the training module, the post training quiz, and complete the checklist (attached below).
- Ensure students and faculty instructors read the attached Elsevier skill – Blood Glucose Meter – Accu-Chek® procedure (attached below).
- Maintain student and faculty instructor records of all completed glucose meter training orientation/annual renewal (Certificate of Completion and Training Checklist).
