Starting on August 14, 2018, the infuse over duration comments label will be removed from MAR and IV.

What’s happening?

The Student Practice Team would like to inform all students and faculty instructors who use MEDITECH that starting on August 14, 2018, the infuse over duration comments label will be removed from MAR and IV.

This is because the Parental Drug Therapy Manual (PDTM) and/or Alaris drug library is the source of truth to determine the appropriate infusion rate of any medication. Please note that there will be a transition period where infusion duration may still appear on MAR from orders already entered (e.g. active orders).

Below is an example of the upcoming change using cefazolin 1000mg/50 mL D5W bag:

The following will be excluding from these changes:

  • Pediatric and NICU
  • Oncology
  • Drugs not listed in Parenteral Drug Therapy Manual (PDTM) or Alaris drug library
  • If the infuse over duration is part of a pre-printed order/protocol

How will this impact students and faculty instructors?

Students and faculty instructors who are completing student placements in Fraser Health are expected to follow this practice change to ensure that patients, clients, and residents continue to receive safe and quality care.
