Respectful Workplace Client Partner, Regional Position

“This experience was challenging and rewarding. Meeting and working with other dedicated and committed staff within and outside of Fraser Health was refreshing.”

"I work as a client partner, Human Resources Consulting Services. I was redeployed during COVID-19. First, as a long-term care screener and then as an Infection Prevention and Control auditor. This meant working with systems and tools that were created and updated as they were being used. This was inspiring. It meant that best practices were current and applied immediately. The collaboration between individuals creating these systems and those executing them was seamless. Screeners and auditors would advise what was working and was not. The feedback was implemented straight away. These were new roles for me and made me apprehensive. I relied on others who were my mentors. It meant a rapid uptake of new information on best practices in infection control and had me working with new teammates, including a nurse who voluntarily came out of retirement to help during the pandemic.

A day in the life of an auditor started with a call to the long-term care/assisted living site to arrange an audit date. Audit preparation included reviewing the auditor tool with a CNE specialist, obtaining and donning proper PPE, touring the site with an administrator and collecting data on infection control practices. If there were high risk needs identified for infection prevention, it was remediated on the spot. Follow-up reviews/visits ensured action plans were developed and executed for lower risk issues. It meant working collectively to address hurdles such as securing medical grade PPE and disinfectants, reviewing plans for additional staffing or seeking creative ways to ensure social distancing. To create an action plan that addressed family members challenged with maintaining social distance, involved the site, a CNE specialist, myself and my clinical buddy.

This experience was challenging and rewarding. Meeting and working with other dedicated and committed staff within and outside of Fraser Health was refreshing. Agencies that were initially anxious to have an audit later expressed gratitude towards Fraser Health for the support and guidance given. I would definitely step into a redeployment role in future given all that I’ve gained through this experience."
