Surrey priority projects
British Columbia's population is growing and changing, especially in Surrey. As people move to the Fraser Health region, we are investing in our health services to keep up with growing demand.
The Province and Fraser Health are working on 30 priority actions to transform health care at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Among these actions are a number of capital developments that will support care for our patients both in the Surrey community and across the Fraser Health region:
Cardiac catheterization
On December 8, 2025, cardiac catheterization suites opened at Surrey Memorial Hospital. These are the first suites of their kind south of the Fraser River.
Doctors use thin tubes guided through blood vessels to treat heart conditions without open surgery. Before these suites opened, patients had to travel to New Westminster or Vancouver for procedures like angioplasty. Now, they have access to that care closer to home. Most patients experience a faster recovery and spend less time in hospital.
Interventional radiology
On January 8, 2026, two interventional radiology procedure suites opened at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Together with the existing suite, the hospital now has three times the interventional radiology capacity it had before.
These procedures use imaging tools, like CT, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray, to treat conditions like cancer and heart disease without open surgery. Patients often recover faster, with fewer complications and shorter hospital stays.
More dialysis care closer to home
A new renal facility is under construction at Surrey Memorial Hospital. It is designed to be a comfortable, welcoming space for patients who need ongoing treatment.
Opening in summer 2026, the new building will add 21 new dialysis stations, increasing the hospital’s total to 60 and significantly expanding access to dialysis care by 55 per cent.
Expanded diagnostic imaging
We are expanding diagnostic imaging services to provide our patients with improved access:
- A mobile MRI has been in service since July 2025
- One replacement MRI suite and one new MRI suite are under construction inside Surrey Memorial Hospital.
- A new CT scanner will open at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre in fall 2026.
These upgrades will improve imaging efficiency and diagnostic accuracy and support specialized cancer and cardiac imaging.
Upgraded operating rooms
Surrey Memorial Hospital is updating its operating rooms. Ten rooms are being upgraded with new equipment. Four are already complete, with the rest underway. The upgrades make the rooms safer and more effective for patients and surgical teams.
More care, closer to home
- We have added 60 Internal Medicine beds, increasing to 90 from 30.
- We have upgraded the Family Birthing Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- The Surrey Satellite Clinic has helped take pressure off the Emergency Department since it opened in 2022.
- We have expanded Rehabilitation and Home Health services.
Working together for Surrey
Every milestone gets us closer to the same goal: Improving care for people in Surrey. Fraser Health, the Province of British Columbia and Surrey Hospitals Foundation are working together to build a hospital that supports the people we care for and their families for decades to come.
