Long term care provides professional nursing services around the clock to people who are no longer able to stay at home safely

This not-for-profit provider offers on its site a continuum of high-quality health, housing and wellness programs while nurturing a sense of community.

Residents are encouraged and supported to live as independently and fully as possible. We are committed to providing excellent person-centred care, working together with each resident to understand and help meet his/her needs with dignity and compassion. The GentleCare philosophy underlies our care for residents with dementia. Since family members and friends play an important role in the health and well-being of their loved ones, we value and appreciate their involvement, along with each resident’s, in the care provided and in our community.

KinVillage West Court has 100 publicly subsidized long term care beds. All rooms are single occupancy.

Room features and personalization Each room has a private washroom and is furnished with a bed, bedside table and dresser. There is a phone jack and cablevision hook-up in each room.  (Residents are responsible for arranging and paying for phone, cable and/or internet service in their own room.)

Residents are also welcome to bring in their own CSA approved television, small computers or laptops, and some personal belongings such as a favourite chair, pictures, lamps, etc. as long as these do not create an unsafe situation.
Accessibility The building and grounds are wheelchair accessible, and there are two elevators to access the upper floor.  Electric wheelchairs and scooters are not permitted in the building.
Security The building is equipped with a Wanderguard system.  Exits and stairwells are alarmed or secured with keypad locked doors.  The front door is locked at night with access obtained by ringing a doorbell at the entrance.
Smoking Consistent with Fraser Health’s policy, KinVillage provides smoking cessation support.  In exceptional circumstances, residents who smoke may do so in one of two designated resident only smoking areas - on the patio just outside of the dining room/lounge or 3 metres from the front entrance.
Location information  KinVillage is comprised of 4 residential buildings and a community centre (that includes a café and a women’s used clothing boutique). All buildings are close walking distance to one another and there is direct indoor access from West Court to the KinVillage Community Centre.

The KinVillage site is in close proximity to most amenities: a nearby bus stop, grocery stores, several banks, restaurants, a mall, a medical building and the Winskill park, fitness and acquatic centre are all within a five to ten minute walk.
Additional site features Three beautiful and secure garden areas.  Two large lounges located on the first floor with two smaller lounges on the second floor.  Televisions are available in three lounges and there is a public phone available at Reception.  WiFi is available in some lounge areas. A few computers are available for resident use.  The building has direct indoor access to the KinVillage Community Centre next door.

Residents and families also have access to our community centre next door and the many activities and special events it offers.
Spiritual program Through partnerships with community faith groups a variety of inclusive religious services are offered reflecting the demographic needs of residents and respecting freedom of choice.   A church service is offered each week as well as a bible study group.

A resident’s own spiritual advisor, pastor, priest, imam or rabbi is welcome to visit.  If a resident or his/her family are unable to arrange this, upon request, staff will contact and ask her/him to visit.
Pets Pets are not allowed to live at West Court nor stay overnight.  Family pets are welcome to visit.  Healthy, immunized and well-behaved visiting pets must be supervised and under control at all times.  When outside a resident’s suite, pets must be leashed or kept in an appropriate carrier.   Animals are not permitted in the kitchen or dining areas.  Animals also come to West Court as part of the pet visitation program.  Amphibians, reptiles, farm, wild, stray and exotic animals are not permitted unless they are part of the organized pet visitation program.
