The resident units are located on two floors each of which is divided into four wings. There is a 25-bed special care unit on site.
We meet or exceed industry standards and are accredited with Accreditation Canada to ensure our ongoing operations demonstrate proven quality activities that address the needs of our seniors in care, their families and our staff.
We tailor our offerings by making life in our care more comfortable and more enjoyable with the addition of services available on-site such as physiotherapy, recreation therapy, rehab assistant and program activity workers.
Fair Haven has 100 publicly subsidized long term care beds. All rooms are single occupancy rooms.

Room features and personalization |
All rooms are private and include a bed, night table, dresser, wardrobe, armchair, lamp and towels and linen. Residents may personalize the room by adding a radio, television, personal pictures, small furniture pieces and plants. |
Accessibility | The entire facility is wheelchair accessible and we have a number of rooms that include a ceiling lift if required. We have recently renovated our bathing/spa areas to provide comfort and safety. |
Security | Fair Haven has one secure unit, with the majority of the building being open an accessible to all. If needed we have “wander-guard” and doors are all key padded for safety and security. Additionally, security cameras are strategically place throughout the building. |
Smoking | Fair Haven is a non-smoking facility. |
Location information | South of metro town, the facility is located in south Burnaby on the corner of Sussex and Rumble, fully accessible by bus. |
Additional site features | Fair Haven strives to provide a campus of care and on the site, we have a Children’s Day care centre and two other seniors housing buildings |
Parking and transportation | Underground secured parking is available for a small fee for family members to facilitate ease of visiting. |
Programs
Social and recreation programs | A variety of recreation and activity programming is available seven days a week, and provide residents with group and individual activities to promote physical, emotional, cognitive and social well-being. We have a bus for recreational outings. Weekly Music Therapy and Art Therapy sessions are also available. |
Spiritual program | We have a Director of Spiritual Care on staff to aide in allowing all residents to honor their individual beliefs and values. |
Pets | Our resident cat, Lilo, makes himself comfortable lounging in the sun or in the garden room. We have two large fish tanks and welcome pets into the home on a regular basis with a volunteer pet program. |
Medical assistance in dying | On-site assessment and on-site provision available. We will honor our existing residents’ autonomy and decision regarding medical assistance in dying. However, we will not accept new residents for the sole purpose of pursuing medical assistance in dying. |
Additional services
Hairdressing | The hair dresser attends the site twice weekly, appointments are made ahead of time and fees for the service are paid out of the resident trust account. |
Foot and nail care | A Podiatrist or a Foot Care nurse assists residents regularly, these services are paid out of the resident trust account. |
Additional services | Other services available for a fee are Dentistry, Private Occupational Therapy (referral) and Private Physiotherapy service if needed. Volunteers operate the gift shop twice a week. |

Referral by case manager at a Home and Community Care office is required. To access service call the Home Health Service Line for more information; do not contact the care home directly.
