Nicola Lodge is a state of the art complex, offering full long term care with specialized services for bariatric care, dementia and mental health care.

Surrounded by shops and restaurants, and only minutes from the Lougheed Highway, Nicola Lodge is a new long-term care residence designed to serve seniors in the Tri-Cities communities of British Columbia. Nicola Lodge embraces a resident-centered philosophy of care. We provide and support quality-of-life care that encourages our Residents to make meaningful choices and participate in more purposeful activities. Our ultimate goal is the achievement of increased satisfaction in daily life and to live fully everyday.

We believe in cultural values and diversity. We celebrate a variety of cultural programs to meet the need of diverse population. Every month we celebrate twelve plates of the world offering themed lunch to our residents to enjoy variety of ethnic meals. Multiple employees speak other languages to enhance the care services and communicate with residents in their native language.

Nicola Lodge has 230 beds (212 publicly subsidized long term care beds) including 220 single occupancy rooms and five double occupancy rooms.

Features

Room features and personalization Rooms have their own washroom and are outfitted with a mechanical bed, dresser, wardrobe, and side table. There is also one neighbourhood for young adults with a washroom. Bed and bath linens are provided.

Residents are encouraged to personalize their room with pictures, decorations, special ornaments and personal mementos. They may bring in their own television, computer, radio and phone, and a recliner or lift chair. Rugs or carpets, rocking chairs, personal fridges,and other large furniture items are not permitted.
Accessibility All areas of the building are wheelchair accessible. Resident rooms are outfitted with ceiling tracks to accommodate ceiling lifts if required. Showers and baths can also be accessed via mechanical or ceiling lift. A bus is accessible during recreation outings. 
Security All building or neighbourhood entrances and exits and elevators require keypad access. Two long term care neighbourhoods employ the WanderGuard system for additional security. Video monitoring systems are situated in all public areas (including hallways and dining rooms).
Smoking Smoking amenities are available in two neighborhoods for residents who have been assessed to independently and safely participate in this activity. Visitors are required to smoke off premises.
Location information  Nicola Lodge is situated a block away from several restaurants, coffee shops, and other shopping amenities. There are nearby banking facilities. It is located along Lougheed highway, a major public transit route.

Parking and transportation Free parking is available in the main lot at the front entrance of Nicola Lodge. Additional underground parking and street parking is also available north and west of the building. There are two designated accessible parking spots, as well as designated parking for ambulances, medical transport vehicles and the Nicola Lodge bus.

Programs

Social and recreation programs  Our therapeutic recreation department offers a variety of social engagements such as gentlemen’s club, evening happy hour, coffee corner, special events and weekly bus outings in the community. In addition, we offer a wide range of emotional, cognitive and physical programs including music therapy, morning exercise, yoga, gardening, dine in dinners, brain games and intergenerational programs with our local community.
Spiritual program At Nicola Lodge, we facilitate regular hymn sing programs and our church service program is facilitated by local church volunteers from the community. A variety of inclusive religious services are offered reflecting the cultural needs of residents and respecting freedom of choice. Personalized communion visits are available upon request. We also have volunteers who provide spiritual services in Mandarin and Cantonese.
Pets Our volunteer therapy dogs visit with residents throughout the week. The dogs are trained from friends and pets from the St. John's Ambulance pet therapy program.
Medical assistance in dying On-site assessment and on-site provision available. Physicians from Nicola Lodge may assess residents for MAiD. Provision is by a designated Fraser Health MAiD team.

Additional services

Hairdressing  A hair salon is located on the second floor. Services are available for a fee.
Foot and nail care There are foot care nurses are available. Services are available for a fee. 
Additional services Residents can receive mobile dental services and mobile optometry services. Methods of payment are established directly with the provider.

Eligibility

Clients must meet Home and Community Care requirements and criteria for admission. A health care needs assessment will be completed to confirm eligibility. See the eligibility requirements for home and community care section of our website.

Referral

Referral by case manager at a Home and Community Care office is required. To access service call the Home Health Service Line for more information; do not contact the care home directly.

Fees

There is a monthly accommodation fee; additional fees may apply for incidental services.
