Hawthorne Seniors Care Community is a multi-building long term care home that is part of a campus of care. It is operated by a non-profit society (Port Coquitlam Senior Citizens’ Housing Society).

The Lodge houses three neighbourhoods. It has a variety of lounges and secured courtyards. 

The Cottages are housed in two single-storey buildings each divided into four self-contained “cottages” for seven residents. Each cottage has its own living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry area and most of the rooms are single. Secured gardens are accessible from each cottage. The Cottages program is custom built and resourced to provide care to residents who are ambulatory and living with dementia. 

Hawthorne Lodge was first opened in 1973.

There is a continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis program available in the Lodge.

Hawthorne has 131 publicly subsidized long term care beds. There are 73 single occupancy and 29 double occupancy rooms.


Room features and personalization 10 semi-private rooms, 111 private rooms. All have an ensuite washroom. Room in the Cottages also have ensuite showers. All rooms offer a hospital-style bed, armoire, night table and chest of drawers. Linens are provided.  
Accessibility Lodge and Cottages are fully accessible. Ceiling lifts are available in all rooms in the Lodge.
Security A variety of security features are utilized, including: Wanderguard, keypadded doors and video security monitoring at exit doors. 
Smoking There is limited smoking on-site in one designated area for residents in the Lodge who meet the safe smoking assessment requirements. 
Location information  Hawthorne is located approximately one kilometre from the Port Coquitlam shopping district. It is two blocks from the Port Coquitlam Recreation Centre and Library.
Additional site features Hawthorne is a campus of care with long term care, assisted living and an adult day program on the site.  

Amenities offered onsite include: a visiting dentist and dental hygienist.  

Hawthorne has a strong volunteer program and is very connected to the larger Port Coquitlam community.
Parking and transportation Hawthorne provides free parking. There is also street parking available. Hawthorne is located three blocks from the Port Coquitlam West Coast Express Station and bus loop.  The closest bus stop is one block west.  


Social and recreation programs  Hawthorne offers a variety of social, recreation and music therapy programs in both the Lodge and Cottages. Two buses are available for outings.   
Spiritual program Hawthorne hosts a range of church services in the Lodge on a regular weekly basis. 
Pets Pets are welcome at Hawthorne. Two recognized pet therapy programs visit regularly. Residents and visitors may request to bring in their own pets; requests are reviewed on an individual basis. All pet owners must follow Hawthorne pet policies. Pets must be appropriate for a long term care setting. 
Medical assistance in dying On-site assessment and on-site provision available. Medical Assistance in Dying is an option for individuals who are current residents of the Hawthorne Community.

Additional services

Hairdressing  A hairdressing salon is located on site by a contracted hairdresser. Services are provided for a fee.   
Foot and nail care Hawthorne provides residents and their families with a list of approved foot and nail care service providers in the community. Service is arranged by the resident or their family.
