Healthy living clinic for children and teens aged 6-17 living with obesity or living with overweight and have specific heath concerns.

An initial comprehensive assessment and family feedback is conducted at Langley Memorial Hospital. Based on their individualized care plan, families work with an allied health team to build the foundation for healthy living through family connections, balanced eating, active living, mental well-being, screen time and sleep.

Support options include:

  • 1:1 family appointments with a dietitian and/or mental health professional for up to two years
  • Interactive group education sessions for parents/caregivers on various healthy living topics
  • Family physical activity group delivered by an exercise specialist

Access

Eligibility

  • Children and teens six to 17 years
  • Body mass index (BMI) for their age is greater than the 97th percentile
  • BMI for their age is between the 85th and 97th percentiles and they have specific health concerns

Participation requires a readiness to engage in healthy living changes. Readiness and capacity to attend appointments and group sessions are discussed at the initial appointment.

Referral

Only available by referral from a physician or nurse practitioner.
