Bronchoscopies provide information regarding the internal status of the lung, to better aid in the diagnosis provided by computerized tomography or chest x-ray.
Procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and may include biopsy, brushing and washings as needed for diagnosis of tuberculosis, cancer or other sources of infection. Individuals should be prepared to stay in hospital for two to four hours; actual time of the procedure is twenty minutes.
