An outpatient program that provides psychiatric consultation, assessment, and referral to individuals with mental health linked to reproductive health.
The Reproductive Mental Health Clinics support individuals experiencing mental health challenges related to pregnancy, postpartum and pregnancy loss. The clinics serve individuals 19+ who are pregnant and up to one year postpartum.
Services are available to those facing depression, anxiety, panic attacks and psychosis for pregnant and post-partum individuals who experience perinatal mental health conditions. Care is provided through specialized clinics in New Westminster and Surrey, with additional support available in community mental health centres across Fraser Health.
The program offers assessment, treatment, and transition planning that is delivered by clinicians and psychiatrists in a safe, trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and recovery-focused environment. Treatment is evidence-informed, and care plans are co-developed with clients and families to reflect individual needs, values and goals.
Clients can expect:
- Access to reproductive mental health care at several locations across Fraser Health.
- Safe and therapeutic spaces designed to support emotional and physical wellbeing.
- Team-based care with clinicians and psychiatrists experienced in reproductive mental health.
- Transition support to local mental health centres when specialized care is no longer needed.
- Practices that honour culture and lived experience.
- Opportunities to participate in care planning and provide feedback.
- A focus on avoiding hospitalization through early intervention and community-based support.
Access
Eligibility
This program is suitable for:
- Ages 19 and over
- Mental health needs related to having a baby
- Post-partum individuals who are experiencing mental health concerns
- Perinatal Individuals who are dealing with pregnancy loss or infertility
- Resident of the Fraser Health region
For ages 16-19, service is in partnership with Child and Youth Mental Health (Fraser North location only)
This program may not be suitable for:
- Individuals on extended leave certified under the mental health act
- Individuals on injection medications
- A history of severe mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder
Referral
- Clients can self-refer by walking into one of the site locations.
- Referrals can be received from a health care provider such as general practitioners, Obstetrics and Gynecology, psychiatrists, midwives, nurse practitioners or at hospitals through the standard mental health referral form.
