Activities helping people with challenging health conditions make the most of their lives – physically, mentally, and socially.
Activities that we do for our enjoyment are essential to good health – both physical and mental. They give us a break from the stresses of daily living, lift our mood, open our minds, connect us with others, keep us going and make us feel alive.
As members of your care team, therapeutic recreation practitioners (RecTs) work with you and your family to provide support that is focused on your leisure interests, strengths and needs.
We offer two types of therapeutic recreation support:
- Support to participate in recreational activities. This is goal-focused support and includes visits with a therapeutic recreation practitioner that can range from weekly to monthly.
- Community resources support if you are able to participate in recreational activities on your own. The therapist may be able to provide you with additional information about access or orientation to community resources. This is a short-term support service that can range from a one-time visit to several visits.
If you are linked to your local mental health and substance use centre, you can talk to your case manager or therapist about your interest and they will be able to connect you to the right people.
