Amanda LaBoucane is a Métis citizen and mother of two strong Métis – Ojibwe daughters. She was born and raised on Coast Salish lands, and has lived and worked in Indigenous communities, within both rural and urban settings.
The importance of preserving cultural teachings and traditions in all aspects of daily life inspires Amanda to drive the critical work of embedding Indigenous cultural safety and humility into health care. This includes transforming the health care system to address Indigenous-specific racism through strength, determination, political acumen, kindness and heart.
Amanda joined Fraser Health in 2017 and is currently the organization’s interim vice president of Indigenous Health. Her leadership within the Indigenous Health portfolio includes oversight of clinical services such as Indigenous Primary Care, the Indigenous Elders Day Program, the Indigenous Health Liaisons Program, Indigenous Public Health and Health Promotion, and Indigenous Maternal Child Services. Non-clinical program areas within her portfolio include Indigenous cultural safety and humility education, Indigenous quality and patient safety, Indigenous recruitment and retention, Indigenous facilities design, cultural services as well as policy, evaluation and monitoring.

Amanda has over 12 years experience in leadership roles in acute and community health. Prior to joining Fraser Health, she received multiple provincial awards for her work in health care quality, safety and innovation within Saskatchewan’s health system. She has also led community health policy development projects which spanned multiple ministries and jurisdictions, contributed to leading Fraser Health’s COVID-19 Vaccine and Testing Coordination Centres, and developed regional health programs and strategies for underserved communities. Outside of work, Amanda has volunteered with various community-related initiatives and served on the boards of a number of non-profit organizations.
Formal education
Amanda holds a Master of Public Health from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of the Fraser Valley. She is currently completing her Master of Business Administration at Simon Fraser University and is a past member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
