Drinking Water Environmental Health Officers are responsible for the approval, inspection, and monitoring of drinking water systems in order to ensure regulatory compliance and prevent water-borne illnesses.

- issuing operating permits for waterworks systems
- monitoring and auditing water systems for compliance to provincial and federal regulations
- responding to complaints of poor water quality
- issuing boil water advisories
- alerting the public to water contaminants
