Cutting ribbon of the newly opened Harrison West at Elim Village

Fraser Health, together with Elim Village, today announced the official opening of Harrison West, a new 75-bed long term care home for seniors in Surrey.

SURREY — Fraser Health, together with Elim Village, today announced the official opening of Harrison West, a new 75-bed long term care home for seniors in Surrey.

“The addition of Harrison West is great news for residents of Surrey. By providing a range of housing and care options on a single campus, Elim Village offers seniors security, independence and support no matter where they are in their life’s journey,” said Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health for Seniors Darryl Plecas.

Harrison West, a 75-bed facility is Elim Villages’ second long term care facility.  It joins The Harrison bringing the total number of long term care beds at Elim Village to 193. In addition to funding the new 75-bed facility, Fraser Health has also purchased 20 of The Harrison’s private pay beds. Thus, at Elim Village 175 beds are publicly funded through Fraser Health, and the remaining 18 are private pay.

“As our population ages and grows, we need to continue to invest in health care resources in the community. Harrison West adds new long term care beds to a campus of care that allows our residents to age in place,” said Michael Marchbank, president and CEO, Fraser Health.

The new Harrison West has a modern, home-like feel comprising of four floors, three of which support care. The ground floor boasts additional amenities for residents including a pharmacy and doctor’s office. This is in addition to Elim Village’s Oasis, a 15,000 square foot (approximately 1,394 square metre) amenity centre. Residents can also enjoy the Elim Gardens, an open green space and garden that offers year-round tranquility.

“Harrison West is another positive step forward for our community. Through our continued partnership with Fraser Health we are able to both enhance the services offered within Elim Village while at the same time positively impact the greater community of Surrey with much needed long term care beds,” said Ron Pike, executive director, Elim Village.

Elim Village was born out of the vision of a retirement community where a variety of housing, wellness and care options would all be available on one site. The goal was to build a village so that as care needs increased, most residents, including husbands and wives, would be able to stay in the Elim community.

Today, Elim Village is a leading provider of senior’s housing and care in British Columbia. Located on approximately 25 acres in Surrey’s Fleetwood area, the current site has over 600 residents who call Elim Village home.
