The Fraser Centre connected with patients and the public at a public event held February 27, 2018 at SFU Surrey.
The event was planned and co-hosted with SFU Health Sciences and SFU Surrey. The over fifty attendees were treated to two informative presenters (a medical librarian and a philosophy professor) on finding and using health research for health management of one’s own or a family member’s health. There was great conversation about the differences to receptivity of health care providers to health research and strategies for effectively working with providers as well as being mindful of the limitations, credibility, and generalizability of health research.
A great, interactive conversation was hosted by a local radio host with an expert panel of speakers including a patient, a physician, and a researcher. The diverse experiences and expertise enriched the dialogue and learning experience. We heard from attendees that they appreciated the knowledge gained, the conversational format, the diverse speakers, and the hospitality.

Fraser Centre was encouraged by the enthusiastic response and plan to make this an annual event, likely exploring new partners, topics, and locations, to meet the diverse interests and needs of the Fraser region.
