For Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre
My father was at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre. I was at a conference in Kelowna and several of the doctors personally called me to discuss my dad's situation. They took the time to explain his health challenges and to discuss treatment options. Please thank the doctors and nurses for their excellent care of my father. Thanks.
For Eagle Ridge and Royal Columbian hospitals
I’m writing today to give some incredible kudos to the recent experience my family had with Fraser Health’s care when my daughter’s appendix decided it no longer wanted to be in her body.
Picture this – my teenage daughter called me saying “I think I’m dying. Can you come get me?” Investigating a little further, she was having intense pain in her lower-right abdomen…spoiler alert – appendicitis! So off to the Eagle Ridge Hospital Emergency Department we drove. We were greeted by very friendly, smiling volunteers – then triaged by nurses within five minutes. Within an hour we were in a room and within another hour we had seen the doctor and an ultrasound had been ordered. Then all the results were back, and a diagnosis was made. Before we were off to Royal Columbian Hospital (the emergency department doctor at Eagle Ridge Hospital texting with the surgeon at Royal Columbian Hospital about our surgical case on route!) – a nurse who wasn’t even involved with our case saw our daughter upset about the news of impending surgery and she came over to check in and appeased her worries by walking her through what the surgery would be like and treated her with genuine kindness. She treated our daughter like a human being first and foremost and to be honest, lowered the distress of two worried mommas as well – just through how she was interacting with our daughter.
When we arrived at Royal Columbian Hospital, once again we were triaged swiftly, treated pleasantly, got moved into the Emergency Department Zone 2, were seen by the surgical resident within 10 minutes and were told the appendectomy would happen sometime that night. While we waited for the surgery to happen, we were treated with kindness the entire time. Although I can’t remember the names of the folks at Eagle Ridge Hospital, I do remember and would like to give much thanks to everyone at Royal Columbian Hospital…thank you, Nick, emergency department nurse, Melvin, care aide, Sheila, surgery nurse, Kelly, anesthesiologist, Kristin, surgeon, and Barb, post operative nurse. All of you treated us with such kindness, were patient with our questions, were well organized and put our extremely anxious daughter, who has never had surgery before, and two worried mommas at ease. The next day when we were worried about some odd symptoms – the surgeon responded when we reached out within 30 mins and a call to the Fraser Health Virtual Care line was met within five minutes with a very kind and knowledgeable nurse on the other end. My wife and I keep saying how impressed we were with the health services we received and our daughter is doing well in recovery. Our teenager says, “I liked the surgeon’s hair,” but we know that is code for she ‘felt safe and taken care of too. No cap.’
From onset of pain to tests to IVs to two hospitals to surgery to home, all in 16 hours…impressive. We were treated with care (from everyone) and it made all the difference to us.
For Langley Memorial Hospital
I would like to give a shout out to all of the Langley Memorial Hospital staff that I dealt with during my surgery. Two specific ones were the charge nurses. There was a patient matter which the first one handled with great professionalism, making sure all of us were feeling comfortable. Day Charge Nurse Courtney was also exceptional.
For Mission Memorial Hospital and Home Health
Thank you to Mission Memorial Hospital: to Dr. Rahimi, for your expertise and bedside manner; to the nursing station for helping by answering our questions; and last, but not least, to the nurses who are brilliant at their job. Also a shout out to Home Health for organizing for a nurse to come to our house to continue care. Thank you. We appreciate you.
For Peace Arch Hospital
I recently had a great experience at the Peace Arch Hospital Emergency Department. The nurses and doctors were wonderful and have my utmost respect for the job they do day-in and day-out. I feel the best thing I can do is talk about my experience at the emergency department to everyone I know. Thank you doesn't seem to be enough, but to all the nurses and doctors, you are heroes every single day.
