"I care for the psychosocial needs of kids and families … I read stories to distressed children to ease their anxiety and help them understand what to expect in surgery or medical imaging."

This is my dream job. It’s fun. Exhausting. Sometimes sad – but all worth it when a child and family can have a positive hospital experience.

I care for the psychosocial needs of kids and families. Each child and situation requires a different approach. I read stories to distressed children to ease their anxiety and help them understand what to expect in surgery or medical imaging. I use distraction activities like bubble blowing, Nintendo and virtual reality roller coaster to keep kids calm and happy. I have the coolest job in the world – according to my son. It takes strong teamwork to see kids and families through illness. I feel fortunate to be a member of such a supportive and expert pediatric team!

I’m a small town girl from Prince George. My mom was a nurse. Growing up I listened to her health care stories and wanted to experience something like that for myself. A professor recommended this career path – I was hooked at first glance.
