Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak over in the long term care area at Queen’s Park Care Centre in New Westminster.

With the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in care facilities, there are no longer any COVID-19 cases in this location.

Queen’s Park Care Centre is an acute and long term care facility in New Westminster that is owned and operated by Fraser Health. As a precaution, due to the separate, ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in the acute care area of Queen’s Park Care Centre, all enhanced control measures will remain in place in the long term care area until the acute care outbreak is declared over.

Fraser Health is also providing updated information on COVID-19 outbreaks in long term care and acute care settings:

Long term care:

Two staff members and two residents at Tabor Home have tested positive for COVID-19. Tabor Home is a long term care facility in Abbotsford that is owned and operated by Tabor Village. A Fraser Health rapid response team is at the site and communication with residents and families is underway. Both staff members are currently in self-isolation at their homes, and both residents are currently in self-isolation in their homes at long term care.

Enhanced control measures have been put in place at the site. Fraser Health is working with staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families. 

Fraser Health has proactively implemented the following at the site:

  • Staffing levels will be maintained to provide resident care.
  • Visitors are restricted throughout the facility.
  • Staff and residents movement in the facility has been restricted.
  • Cleaning and infection control measures have been enhanced.
  • Residents, families and staff are being notified.
  • Twice a day screening of all staff and residents. 

During this time, Fraser Health has additional presence at the site to take any further actions required and support the facility. This includes dedicated people to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents.

Acute care:

Fraser Health has declared an outbreak at Langley Memorial Hospital after evidence of transmission in a Medicine unit. One staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The outbreak is limited to one unit, which is temporarily closed to admissions.

In addition, Fraser Health has declared an outbreak at Ridge Meadows Hospital after evidence of transmission in a Rehabilitation unit. One patient and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19. The outbreak is limited to one unit, which is temporarily closed to admissions.

Upon declaring the outbreaks, Fraser Health immediately implemented precautions, including enhanced cleaning, as well as contact tracing to protect the health of all staff, medical staff, and patients.

Fraser Health has notified all patients on the affected units about the outbreaks, and in addition, have informed the families of patients who are unable to share this information. Langley Memorial Hospital and Ridge Meadows Memorial Hospital are working with essential visitors to the affected units on a case-by-case basis. 

Fraser Health has implemented comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in long term care, assisted living and independent living facilities. In addition, Fraser Health has also deployed more than 480 people including care staff and our rapid-response teams which include clinical nurse educators, infection prevention and control experts, screeners, and patient care quality officers supporting with communication to families and assessing symptoms at sites with outbreaks. Through these teams, sites are also connected with emergency supplies and additional personnel if needed.
