Fraser Health declares COVID-19 outbreaks over at Queen’s Park Care Centre and Good Samaritan Delta View Care Centre; declares outbreaks at Royal Columbian Hospital and North Fraser Pretrial Services Centre

Acute:

Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak over in the rehabilitation unit at Queen’s Park Care Centre in New Westminster. 

Upon declaring the outbreak, Fraser Health immediately implemented precautions, including enhanced cleaning, as well as contact tracing to protect the health of all staff, medical staff, and patients. With the implementation of comprehensive strategies, there is no longer an outbreak at this location.

Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Columbian Hospital after evidence of transmission in a surgical unit. 

Two patients at Royal Columbian Hospital have tested positive for COVID-19. The outbreak is limited to one unit, which is temporarily closed to admissions.

Upon declaring the outbreak, Fraser Health immediately implemented precautions, including enhanced cleaning as well as contact tracing to protect the health of all staff, medical staff, and patients.

The emergency department at Royal Columbian Hospital remains open and there has been no impact to any other areas of Royal Columbian Hospital.

Fraser Health has notified all patients on the affected unit about the outbreak, and in addition, have informed the families of patients who are unable to share this information. 

Long term care and assisted living:

Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak over at Good Samaritan Delta View Care Centre in Delta.

With the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in care facilities, there are no longer any COVID-19 cases at this location.

Community:

Twenty individuals in custody at the North Fraser Pretrial Services Centre have tested positive for COVID-19.

Fraser Health is working with BC Corrections and Provincial Health Services Authority infection control to support the site and manage the outbreak. In addition, we are actively following up with any individuals who had contact with the individuals in custody at this location who have tested positive for COVID-19. 

Fraser Health Public Health is working with BC Corrections and the Provincial Health Services Authority to identify any individuals who may have had contact with any of the individuals in custody who tested positive. Following provincial health guidelines, Public Health will contact these individuals directly to determine if they are symptomatic and that appropriate self-isolation measures are being taken.

At this time, it is critically important for people living in the Fraser Health region to use the COVID-19 assessment tool and get tested as soon as you have COVID-19-like symptoms, even mild ones. Please don’t wait, and book or drop by one of our collection centres which are operated in partnership with local Divisions of Family Practice.
