Look ahead: We are counting down the months before the first patients arrive in the new Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower (JPACT).
Clinical teams are already starting to become more involved in getting the tower ready for operations. This fall, we will begin training and orientation for new and existing staff and medical staff.
Construction update

While construction of the tower is mostly complete, there is still work underway to finalize the building inside and out. Demolition of the Interim Support Building is mostly complete. This vacant space will then become a new surface parking lot for patients and visitors that will open at the same time as the tower. A pedestrian walkway and landscaping will connect the new tower to East Columbia Street.
Surgical robotics systems arrives

Fraser Health's regional robotic surgery program is moving forward with the arrival of the da Vinci Xi system at the new acute care tower. Funded by the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation, this equipment will allow surgeons at a console to operate remote-controlled robotic arms to perform surgery with added precision. Go-live is scheduled for early 2026 to coincide with the opening of the tower and to give clinicians time to train on the new system. Read more.
Support services moved into the new tower
Support services teams have moved into their new spaces and are now operating from Level 0 of the JPACT. The new loading dock is now open and fully operational. Watch our video to see the Level 0 spaces and what's happening behind the scenes to prepare for the opening of the tower early next year.
Phase 3
Renovations have begun in the Health Care Centre (Level 0) to support the increased services added with the new acute care tower. We expect there to be minimal impacts for patients and visitors. We will be installing a construction trailer at Keary Street between East Columbia Street and Brunette Avenue that will be used during hospital renovations. Read more.
See inside a cardiac operating room
Watch a preview of a cardiac operating room on the Interventional platform. When open, the new tower will have Interventional Cardiology suites, operating rooms and interventional radiology on a surgical interventional 'superfloor', one of the first and largest in Canada.
