What is the measles immunization catch-up program?

The BC Government is launching a measles immunization catch-up program to help B.C. families ensure their children are protected from measles.

The program will run from April through June 2019.

Why do we have a catch-up program for measles immunizations?

The measles immunization catch-up program is an opportunity for unimmunized and under immunized children to catch-up on their vaccinations.

We thank parents for their patience and want to remind people that this is not an emergency. There is no measles outbreak within our region; however, we are working with the province, our health-care partners and school districts to ensure we increase immunity of most of B.C.’s school-aged children.

How will children be receiving their measles immunizations?

Starting in April, our Public Health team will send letters to parents of children in kindergarten through Grade 12 who do not have up-to-date measles vaccinations. Parents will be provided with instructions on where and when they can go to receive the vaccination for their children.

Where can my child get their measles immunization?

Measles immunization clinics

Public Health will be holding measles immunization clinics for children in kindergarten to Grade 12. These clinics will only provide measles immunizations. Infants and adults requiring measles and other immunizations can see a doctor, an immunizing pharmacist (ages five and up) or Public Health. Please bring your child’s measles letter from public health with you.

In addition, Public Health is holding measles immunization clinics for students attending specific high schools.

Family doctors and pharmacists

Parents can also have their child immunized by a family doctor (all ages) or a pharmacist (age five and up). Find an immunizing pharmacist or doctor near you:

Note: Bring your child’s measles letter from public health if you see a pharmacist or doctor for immunization.

Where do I submit my child's immunization record if they were immunized outside Fraser Health?

If your child was immunized by Fraser Health Public Health, we have copies of their immunization record.

If a child was immunized by someone outside of Fraser Health Public Health, such as their family physician, nurse practitioner or pharmacist, parents are encouraged to email their child’s immunization record to us at reportimmunizations@fraserhealth.ca.

Where can I find more information about measles immunizations?
