Learn more about our commitment to building a health care system that delivers culturally safe and equitable services to all Indigenous Peoples in the region.
We are striving to provide Indigenous patients and families with a health care experience free of racism and discrimination. We acknowledge that cultural humility is a process of self-reflection to understand personal and systemic biases and we are committed to providing respectful care based on mutual trust.
Fraser Health Territory Acknowledgement
To create a climate for positive social change, we are encouraging all staff to formally recognize and acknowledge the First Peoples on whose traditional territories we live and work.

This report concludes that Indigenous People in B.C. are exposed to widespread racism that often results in negative health care experiences, inequitable medical treatment, physical harm and even death.
President and CEO Dr. Victoria Lee and Board chair Jim Sinclair joined the CEOs and board chairs from across the province’s health authorities in a message which included an apology to Indigenous patients, families, communities, staff and medical staff for their painful experiences within the B.C. health care system. They committed to implement the recommendations made in the report.

Our journey began in 2011 with the signing of the first Partnership Accord between Fraser Health and the Fraser Salish Regional Caucus, which established the Aboriginal Health Steering Committee — now known as the Indigenous Health Collaborative Council — to advance Indigenous health priorities, policies and services across the Fraser Region. On January 15, 2020, Fraser Health renewed the Fraser Partnership Accord alongside the First Nations Health Authority and the Fraser Salish Regional Caucus. This commitment was reaffirmed on February 1, 2024, when the Indigenous Health Collaborative Council renewed the accord. This time, Fraser Health, the Fraser Salish Regional Caucus, Métis Nation BC and the Ministry of Health signed as partners, with the First Nations Health Authority participating as a witness.
