Information Bulletin

Fraser Health has declared COVID-19 outbreaks over at Fort Langley Seniors Community in Langley, The Village in Langley, and Sunset Manor in Chilliwack. With the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in care facilities, there are no longer any COVID-19 cases at these locations.

Fraser Health is updating the COVID-19 outbreak at Queen’s Park Care Centre to include the acute facility after an individual patient within a rehabilitation unit tested positive for COVID-19. Communication with residents and families is underway.

Queen’s Park Care Centre is an acute and long term care facility in New Westminster that is owned and operated by Fraser Health. An outbreak within the long term care unit at Queen’s Park Care Centre was declared on October 24, 2020 after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, and remains active. No new cases have been identified within the long term care unit. At this time, it does not appear that the cases in the long term care unit and the rehabilitation unit are connected, and the units operate separately.

Upon declaring the outbreak, Fraser Health immediately implemented enhanced infection prevention and control precautions, including enhanced cleaning, as well as contact tracing to protect the health of all staff, medical staff, and patients.

A staff member at Hawthorne Seniors Care Community and a staff member at CareLife Fleetwood have tested positive for COVID-19. Fraser Health has declared outbreaks at both sites, and rapid response teams are at each site. Communication with residents and families is underway.

Hawthorne Seniors Care Community in Port Coquitlam is an assisted living facility that is owned and operated by the Port Coquitlam Senior Citizens’ Housing Society. CareLife Fleetwood in Surrey is a long term care facility that is owned and operated by Fraser Health.

Enhanced control measures have been put in place at both sites. Fraser Health is working with staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families.

Fraser Health has proactively implemented the following:

  • Staffing levels will be maintained to provide resident care.
  • Visitors are restricted throughout the facility.
  • Staff and resident movement in the facility has been restricted.
  • Cleaning and infection control measures have been enhanced.
  • Residents, families and staff are being notified.
  • Twice a day screening of all staff and residents.

During this time, Fraser Health has additional presence at each site to take any further actions required and support the facility. This includes dedicated people to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents.

Fraser Health has implemented comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in long term care, assisted living and independent living facilities. In addition, Fraser Health has also deployed more than 480 people including care staff and our rapid-response teams which include clinical nurse educators, infection prevention and control experts, screeners, and patient care quality officers supporting with communication to families and assessing symptoms at sites with outbreaks. Through these teams, sites are also connected with emergency supplies and additional personnel if needed.
