Eagle Ridge Hospital

Renovations to expand and update the Emergency Department at Eagle Ridge Hospital give the communities of Port Moody and the Tri-Cities better access to emergency care.

The Emergency Department expansion, completed in September 2021, saw an increase of treatment spaces from 19 to 39 and tripled the square footage of the previous department. Other updates included new separate entrances for walk-in patients and ambulances, a redesigned registration and triage area to improve privacy and flow of patients, and a designated separate area for patients with mental health and substance use support needs.

The next phase of the project was completed in July 2022 and featured upgrades and renovations to the former Emergency Department. This includes a designated area for decontamination of hazardous materials to help prevent the spread of contaminants, complete with a decontamination suite with airlock features and a separate entrance for improved safety; four new isolation rooms for people with infectious illnesses; two new resuscitation areas to increase care spaces for trauma patients; and additional handwashing stations to help reduce the risk of infection.

In addition to the Emergency Department expansion, additional upgrades were completed to help improve access to care closer to home:

  • Renovations to the community outpatient services area to allow for more timely access to follow-up care. This area offers team-based care and services including rapid access clinics, intravenous therapy and wound care. This area features seven private exam rooms, six treatment bays, 14 recliner chair bays and clinical space for wound and ostomy patients.
  • New cardiology space was created to provide patients with specialized care.

These renovations help improve access to emergency and specialized services for patients in Port Moody and the Tri-Cities to ensure they get the care they need.
