Lucinda Schwab, Public Health Nurse at the North Surrey Health Unit, with the STD Clinic and the Street Health Outreach Program in Whalley. Lucinda works with high risk populations to provide care and follow-up in the treatment of communicable diseases. She was one of the pioneers of the Fraser Health’s HIV Program, and started up flu clinics, foot clinics, and a program for at-risk women to receive STD screening, treatment, and follow-up. Lucinda also initiated an outreach program to women working in massage parlours and established relationships of trust with the women and operators. She visits the parlours monthly, doing STD screening, treatment and follow-up with this very hard to reach population.
People on the street know and trust ‘Nurse Lucinda’ as a passionate advocate for her clients and their health care needs. Her manuals and presentations for both Public Health and community groups highlight the fact that health care can be provided effectively to high risk populations who truly need the kind of understanding, and caring dedication that Lucinda brings to her role.
