The Chilliwack General Hospital Redevelopment Project consisted of eight phases. In November 2008, a groundbreaking was held on site. Soil densification began in January and was completed in early March. In early 2009, the Paediatric Clinic and the entrance to the Emergency Department was temporarily moved to make way for the construction of the new and renovated facilities. In late April 2009, the hospital’s new library, physician’s lounge, medical records and UBC Residency program offices was completed. Phase two of the project started in January 2009. During this phase, excavation for the new building footings began. It was estimated that the total amount of soil excavated was 2,400 m3. Next was concrete pours for the foundation and the steel frame of the building. On the inside of the hospital, the Medical Daycare, Paediatric Clinic and staff locker/lounge area started in May 2009 and was scheduled to be complete by Fall 2009.
