Each day we'll post a new fact about this centre. Learn a fact every day until we open on June 1, 2011.
- Jun 1: After countless hours of planning, building, constructing, and implementing, the Jim Pattison Care and Surgery Centre opens its doors today!
- May 31: As a result of forward thinking and innovation, the Outpatient Centre will continue to grow and serve future health care needs in Surrey and the Lower Mainland.
- May 30: Once our centre opens its doors on June 1st, programs will open over the next three weeks.
- May 29: The Outpatient Centre is within walking distance of transit and has bike racks and shower facilities for staff to encourage green transportation and healthy living.
- May 28: The Collaboration Corridor is a winding hallway that runs through the Outpatient Centre's third floor. Computer stations are set up along the corridor providing physicians and employees quick and easy access to computers, data, images, and equipment.
- May 27: Check out the staff deck on the fourth floor! With a spectacular view overlooking the City of Surrey, employees, physicians and volunteers can take in the surrounding scenery.
- May 26: There are more than 7,115 items of medical equipment specified ordered, delivered, installed and commissioned for the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre.
- May 24: Our expanded Diabetes Clinic offers evening and Saturday self-management programs for people newly diagnosed with diabetes.
- May 23: Once our centre opens its doors on June 1st, programs will open over the next three weeks.
- May 22: Plugging into a better future! The Outpatient Centre has 19 electric re-fuelling stations to help support a sustainable tomorrow.
- May 21: A little early for your appointment? For your convenience, Blenz and Shoppers Drug Mart will be on location to serve you.
- May 20: Looking for a pharmacy? The Outpatient Centre's entry level will house a Shoppers Drug Mart for your convenience.
- May 19: Patients and visitors can be easily and safely dropped off at main entrance circular drop-off area off of 140th Street in Surrey.
- May 18: The Outpatient Centre is located at the corner of 140th Street and Fraser Hwy., less than one kilometre away from Surrey Memorial Hospital.
- May 17: Check out our views at the Public Open House on May 30! Beautiful forest views, “Oh, what a sight!”
- May 16: Located close to transit services, getting to the Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre will be simple and accessible.
- May 15: Visitors, patients, and employees can keep up to date on eco-friendly practices through green education materials and videos available to them at the Centre.
- May 14: Our Express check-in kiosks offer five different language options to better serve our diverse population.
- May 13: Express Check-In for your scheduled appointment upon arrival at the Outpatient Centre. All you need is your BC CareCard!
- May 12: The Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre wasn't built to look like any other hospital. Stop by the public open house on Monday, May 30 from 3:00PM - 7:00PM and see for yourself!
- May 11: With enhanced programs and the latest in medical technology, the Outpatient Centre promotes knowledge sharing and will provide a base for future medical research.
- May 10: They say learning is a lifelong process. The Outpatient Centre has video conferencing capabilities with UBC and SFU to stay informed and educated to better serve our patients.
- May 9: The Outpatient Centre is equipped with more than 600 parking spaces, 100+ exam and treatment rooms, 10 procedural rooms, and six operating rooms.
- May 8: Children and their families can relax in the child’s play area located in the Outpatient Centre’s lobby.
- May 7: We kept our environmental footprint small from the start - 75% of construction, demolition, and land clearing debris were recycled or salvaged!
- May 6: Our OR and MRI rooms are one of the few in Canada that have windows!
- May 5: On top of providing quality care to our patients, features of the centre also reflect Fraser Health’s commitment to foster a great workplace for staff.
- May 4: To reduce unnecessary hospital readmissions, the Primary Care Clinic provides follow-up care to Surrey Memorial Hospital patients without a family doctor.
- May 3: Breathe Easy! For the comfort, well-being, and safety of our occupants, indoor air quality is constantly monitored and tracked by sensors.
- May 2: This entire Outpatient Centre is full of new state-of-the-art medical equipment to improve efficiency and enhance your patient experience.
- May 1: How much concrete is used to construct a 188,000 sq. ft. building?! Over 2,100 truck loads or seven Olympic sized swimming pools!
- Apr 30: All heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment at the Outpatient Centre are CFC and HALONS free.
- Apr 29: Designed around the theme of a tree, you’ll find acorns, green leaves, and flower blossoms as symbols used within the Outpatient Centre.
- Apr 28: Interpretation, translation, and education services will be available for our visitors to meet the needs of our diverse population.
- Apr 27: Fraser Health aims to improve the health and quality of life of over 1.5 million people living in communities from Burnaby to Hope.
- Apr 26: Integration means that we’re making it easier for patients to access care. By combining or linking services, treatment and resources to one location, it saves time and makes comprehensive treatment more accessible for you.
- Apr 25: The new centre will be a leading facility in the delivery of outpatient services – a model of best practices and clinical integration.
- Apr 24: Surrey has an average annual rainfall of 1055mm. By harvesting our large supply of rainwater for landscape use, we reduce water consumption by 50%!

- Apr 21: The Division of Neurology Clinics collaborates with patients, families, and other healthcare workers to prevent illness and improve health outcomes and quality of life for patients who are at risk or have a neurological disorder.
- Apr 20: To support those with cardiac illnesses and promote heart health, our cardiac rehabilitation and prevention program is here to help!
- Apr 19: Fraser Health aims to be environmentally sustainable by employing the latest in green technology and following the principle that paper-lite is best.
- Apr 18: LEEDing the way in environmentally sustainable practices, we’re well on track to receive LEED® Gold certification!
- Apr 17: The size of this facility is bigger than the Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex, which houses three arenas and a swimming pool!
- Apr 16: Can you believe it? Over 200 tonnes of structural steel and 4,000 cubic metres of soil were used to construct the Outpatient Centre!
- Apr 15: It’s not just about Surrey, this new Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre will increase health care capacity throughout Fraser Health and beyond!
- Apr 14: On October 15th, 2009, a time capsule was placed within the lobby wall of the Outpatient Centre- not to be opened until 2041.The contents of the time capsule within the lobby wall will symbolize to those in 2041 how the delivery of health care has transformed.
- Apr 13: To create a tranquil atmosphere at the Outpatient Centre, many of our patient waiting areas were strategically placed to reveal spectacular views of the Green Timbers Forest.
- Apr 12: Colours selected for the design of the Outpatient Centre were chosen to tie into the surrounding forest and to create a welcoming atmosphere.
- Apr 11: Integrated Audio/Video systems in our operating rooms improve access to real time information and medical team collaboration.
- Apr 10: Not making you wait is a priority. SmartCards will let physicians and employees sign-on to computers quickly when work requires them to move from room to room.
- Apr 9: Employees can improve their health as they work on the new treadmill workstation found inside the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre.
- Apr 8: Screening done by our Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic prior to surgery will create a more seamless and safer surgery experience for patients.

- Apr 5: As the first wide-bore MRI for Fraser Health with a 15% wider opening, undergoing a scan has never been more comfortable
- Apr 4: To increase health care capacity, the Outpatient Centre provides early intervention and treatment to patients at risk of being admitted to hospital.
- Apr 3: Maintain a healthy, eco-friendly atmosphere! Exterior cleaning and window washing products used at the Outpatient Centre are phosphorus-free.
- Apr 2: To preserve our earth’s resources, efficient plumbing fixtures are installed to reduce water intake and use at the Outpatient Centre.
- Apr 1: It’s official! Fraser Health now has official possession of the building and staff move-in starts today!
- Mar 31: Patients with kidney disease will have access to enhanced Renal/Vascular services at the new Jim Pattison Outpatient care and Surgery Centre.
- Mar 30: Managing medication schedules can be complicated. That’s why we have a clinical pharmacy on-site to assist you in getting the best results from medications!
- Mar 29: It’s about efficiency and collaboration. A newly integrated medical imaging team at the Outpatient Centre supports all of our clinics and patients’ diagnostic needs.
- Mar 28: Everyone is welcome. People of all faiths can spend time and reflect in the Outpatient Centre’s dedicated sacred space.
- Mar 27: We built this Centre with your needs in mind! Wide corridors and seating areas enhance accessibility and comfort.
- Mar 26: From the paint on the walls to the carpet under your feet, materials were selected based on low-carbon emitting qualities and patient comfort in mind.
- Mar 25: Going through a CT or MRI can be stressful. To make you feel more at ease, our CT and MRI rooms have beautiful sky ceilings!
- Mar 24: Need orthopedic follow-up care, cast application, removal, or rehabilitation services such as physical therapy? You might find yourself at our Orthopedic Clinic!
- Mar 23: We’re improving quality of life and well-being by helping seniors manage chronic medical conditions through our Specialized Seniors Clinic.
- Mar 22: The new Outpatient Centre will feature the FIRST fully integrated pain clinic in British Columbia!
- Mar 21: 2,200 tonnes of recycled pine beetle wood was used in the interior design of this facility!
- Mar 20: To reduce light pollution, the Outpatient Centre is equipped with specialized Illuminating Engineering Society of North America approved lights.
- Mar 19: The design optimizes views and natural light to provide a non-institutional look and feel.
- Mar 18: Surrey has one of the highest birth rates in Fraser Health and we recognize that. Outpatient Centre’s Maternity Clinic offers improved support to expecting women in managing their pregnancy health concerns.
- Mar 17: We followed the three R’s by reducing energy levels, reusing rain water, and recycling construction materials in building this new centre.
- Mar 16: Empowering our patients- that’s our philosophy when it comes to chronic disease management. We focus on prevention, health maintenance support, and self-care strategies
- Mar 15: It’s more than just medicine. Many of our clinics are multidisciplinary, meaning that we also offer services that focus on prevention, social, and psychological aspects of care.
- Mar 14: The Outpatient Centre includes specialized clinics for patients dealing with chronic illnesses such as asthma, congestive heart failure, and diabetes.
- Mar 13: The Plastic Surgery Follow-up Clinic will provide a multidisciplinary focus on surgical follow-up and a comprehensive hand therapy program.
- Mar 12: We’re expecting to see over 450,000 visitors annually. That’s an average of over 1,200 visits a day!
- Mar 11: We don’t have an Emergency Department so you will never get bumped to make room for someone whose life depends on immediate attention.
- Mar 10: Did you know that this $237 million dollar Centre stands at 5 levels totaling to over 188, 000 sq. ft of clinical space?
- Mar 9: For the first time in Fraser Health, non-invasive extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) procedures will be available for patients with kidney stones.
- Mar 8: The centre’s new Breast Health program goal is to reduce the time from referral to diagnosis to 21 days or less!
- Mar 7: Our specialized Anticoagulation Management Clinic for patients at risk of blood clots will increase treatment success and make treatment easier for patients.
- Mar 6: Fraser Health’s first comprehensive Positive Health Clinic (HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis C) will operate five days a week to bring services closer to home.
- Mar 5: Four new Fraser Health programs will be in the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre — Breast Health Clinic, Anticoagulation Management, HIV/AIDs and Hep C Clinic and new urology services.
- Mar 4: As we embarked on our 100 day countdown, the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation started their fundraising campaign, 100 days to give . Help meet fundraising targets by donating today.
- Mar 3: The Outpatient Centre is an initiative of Fraser Health and the Provincial Government to address population and health care demands in the Fraser Valley.
- Mar 2: Surrey is one of the fastest growing cities in BC, and as the Lower Mainland grows, we can grow too! The Outpatient Centre has the capacity for a 30% expansion.
- Mar 1: By 2020, it’s projected that the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre will see close to 600,000 visits a year!
- Feb 28: We’re aiming for faster diagnosis, reduced wait times, and better health outcomes for our patients.
- Feb 27: A significant amount of outpatient services will move from the Surrey Memorial Hospital to free up resources so that we can grow to serve you better.
- Feb 26: Most of our patients will be referred to the Outpatient Centre by a family doctor, medical specialist, or Surrey Memorial Hospital.
- Feb 25: The Outpatient Centre is unique in offering day surgery, diagnostic procedures (lab, X-ray, biopsies etc.), and specialized health programs all under one roof.
- Feb 24: What’s an outpatient? Outpatients don’t require an overnight stay. After treatment or care at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Center, they can go home!
- Feb 23: The Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre is the first Centre of its kind for Fraser Health and BC.
