Abbotsford Regional Hospital is fortunate to have a strong volunteer program and a very high caliber of volunteers working with us.  We are interested in the possibility of adding you to this group. Please review the volunteer requirements and application process below.

Requirements

Volunteers must be 19 years of age. 
(Under 19 years of age please see the VolunTEEN section.)

Volunteers must be willing to commit to a minimum of 6 months or 75 hours of volunteer service.  Unfortunately, we do not have any short term volunteer roles at this time. 

Some volunteer roles require a minimum of 1 year of volunteer service.

Volunteers must be willing to participate in the application process. 

Application Process

Step 1: Download the application form below.  Complete in full and submit the form with a personal letter of reference attached.  Please seal this in an envelope addressed to Volunteer Resources and drop it off at the Greeter desk in the Atrium of Abbotsford Regional Hospital.  Applications must be received by the 2nd week of an intake month (January, April, July and October).   Successful applicants will be contacted for an interview within three weeks.

Step 2: Successful applicants will be contacted for a personal interview following the deadline for receiving applications of an intake month.

Step 3: Following a successful interview references will be conducted.  A criminal record check may be requested.

Step 4: Attend Volunteer Resources General Hospital Orientation to gain the knowledge you will need for a successful volunteer experience at ARH.

Step 5: Program and Area Orientation will be set up specific to the volunteer role in the area of service provided.

Intakes
Auxiliary to the Abbotsford Regional Hospital (March, June, & September)Auxiliary members provide service within the hospital through approved programs, and fund-raise to purchase equipment and sponsor patient programs.  Membership ($10.00) to the Auxiliary is one year. Service placement depends on individual skill, availability and area of service.  Some areas of service require a commitment to volunteer during specific shifts; such as in the Gift Shop, and assisting in the Day Care areas.  Other areas are more flexible; such as fundraising donations, or members working on projects from home.
 
Community Hospital Volunteers (March and September)Community Hospital Volunteers provide service within the hospital through approved programs.  Service placement depends on individual skill, availability and area of service.  Most areas of service require a commitment to volunteer during specific shifts.  Community Hospital Volunteers are not involved with fund-raising and do not pay membership fees.

VolunTEEN Program

"Teens from 16-18 years of age attending school in Abbotsford are eligible to apply for the VolunTEEN Program. Applicants must have previous volunteer experience and the intent to pursue a future in the healthcare sector.

Applications for the 2012 school year are now closed. Applications for the 2013 school year will be made available through the Abbotsford Secondary School Career Counselors in mid September 2012. The application deadline for submissions will be November 30, 2012. If you are under 19 years of age and have graduated and or are attending a post secondary school please contact arhvolunteerresources@fraserhealth.ca to receive an application in September 2012.

Applications will be reviewed and successful candidates will be invited to participate in small group interviews in December 2012 and January 2013. Selected candidates will be required to attend mandatory orientation and or department specific training. VolunTEENS are required to volunteer for one full year with the exception of some grade 12 students."
