We have currently completed our Volunteer Intake for January 2014.  We will be accepting new volunteer applications in May of 2014.

Placements are determined by matching volunteer qualifications, knowledge, interests and availability with current opportunities.

Requirements

Examples of traits of an ideal volunteer candidate include but are not limited to:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Provide proof of seasonal flu vaccination
  • Are realistic about their ability to commit to volunteering, minimum 6-month commitment
  • Available one time per week on a consistent day for 2-3 hours
  • The ability to be comfortable in a stressful environment that can at times be very busy and at other times be slow
  • The ability to be motivated and a self-starter
  • The ability to be assertive
  • The ability to understand and be understood in English
  • A second language is an asset
  • Discretion, courtesy, and the ability to be detached from others pain and maintain empathy
  • Ability to communicate with sensitivity to individuals from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and individuals of all ages.
  • Follow the Fraser Health Respectful Workplace Policy
  • Knowledge and compliance with infection control requirements
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to debrief/know when to debrief

Application Process:

    Please review the volunteer opportunities list located in the down loads section of this page. Please note not all volunteer programs will have vacancies for new applicants.

    1. Apply: Application forms can be downloaded in PDF format and returned via mail or email to the addresses listed below
    2. Interview: Once your application has been received:
      •    Your application will be reviewed to ensure that your qualifications, skills and personality suit available positions.
      •    Only candidates who qualify for listed postings will be contacted for an interview.
    3. Screening: Once you have been interviewed:
      •    Reference checks will be completed by program staff.
      •    Applicant must successfully complete a Criminal Records Check (Documents will be provided during the interview).
    4. Orientation: Following a reference check and receipt of Criminal Records Check, you will be notified regarding Orientation dates:
      •    This session must be completed as a part of the application process BUT does not indicate acceptance into the program .
    5. Placement: Once all four steps are completed and staff are satisfied with screening outcomes, you will be contacted regarding program placement and scheduling.

      The Members of the Royal Columbian Hospital Auxiliary are community-minded women and men who donate hundreds of hours of their time every year to operate Auxiliary programs (Library Cart, Critical Care/Support, Crafts, Gift Shops, Lottery Booth, New to you Thrift Shop and Patient Comfort).
