June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.  It is an opportunity to raise awareness about this important issue because elder abuse can happen to anyone.

If you’ve watched TV lately you may have seen the ads showing window blinds opening and closing to reveal scenarios of elder abuse. Did you see yourself, or someone you know depicted in these scenes?

Fraser Health provides care and treatment to hundreds of older adults every day. Health care professionals are in the unique position to be able to recognize and respond to situations of elder abuse. In fact, Fraser Health has a legal mandate to respond to situations of abuse, neglect, and self-neglect for adults who are unable to seek help on their own.
