Measles Update

Health Officials are urging everyone who was born on or after January 1, 1957 (age 53 or less) to check their measles immunization status and to immediately get a booster shot if you haven't received two doses of the Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccine. Measles is a very serious infection. If you are in doubt of your immunization record status ~play it safe and get vaccinated for measles right away. Officials report more than 70 confirmed measles cases in BC's growing outbreak this spring.

Routine childhood immunizations in Canada did not include two doses of the measles vaccine until 1996, but we know now that one dose is not always enough to protect against measles infection.

If you do not have a written record of receiving two doses of vaccine call your local Public Health Unit or doctor's office to arrange for the vaccine. The vaccine is extremely safe and effective.
