Surrey Memorial Hospital expansion

Premier Christy Clark and Minister of Health Michael de Jong joined with CEO Dr. Nigel Murray to officially break ground March 21, 2011 for the new Emergency Department (ED) and eight-storey Critical Care Tower at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH).

With renovations planned for Surrey Memorial, the total capital cost of the project is $512 million. The project will add 151 beds to SMH for a total of 650. The ED will open in 2013; the remainder of the tower in 2014.
