We hope this checklist will help you stay on track once you receive a full time employment offer with us. Please update Recruitment Services on your immigration progress each month. We are happy to answer your questions at any time.
If you encounter delays in the registration process – whether you must complete qualifying courses (extra education and clinical experience) or obtain certain documents – please notify Recruitment Services and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

0 | 1. Compile and submit an application for a provincial registration in British Columbia 2. Ensure your passport is valid for at least two years. 3. Sign and return your employment offer letter to Recruitment Services. 4. Apply for a work permit through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for yourself and your family. |
1 | 5. Send a Labour Market Opinion/LMO (received from Recruitment) to CIC. |
2 | 6. Receive an immigration file number from CIC. 7. Schedule an immigration medical exam with designated medical practitioner. |
3 | 8. Complete the medical exam. 9. Receive a notice from a registering body to ensure that all paperwork has been received. |
4 | 10. Receive a notice from the registering body that you are eligible for a registration. 11. Send proof of eligibility to CIC. 12. Send outstanding registration documents (register for an exam, pay for a temporary registration) to registering body. 13. If you are registering with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC), send ‘Form 4’ (Supervised Registration Form) to Recruitment Services. Send Form 8.1A (Application for Provisional Registration). |
5 | 14. Receive a work permit from CIC. 15. Receive a registration/temporary registration from the registering body. 16. Advise Recruitment Services that everything is complete; set a start date (a month or two in advance), pack your belongings and book a flight to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. |
6 | 17. Arrive in Canada at least one week before your start date. 18. Apply for your Social Insurance Number (SIN) and provide a copy of your SIN and work permit to Recruitment |
