Assisted Living emphasizes the principles of individuality, choice, dignity, privacy, and independence for individuals.

Assisted living communities offer housing, hospitality and personal care services to adults who are no longer able to live independently in their own homes, but do not need the high level of care provided in a residential care facility (care home).

Assisted living provides the necessary support to remain as independent as possible and maintain privacy. In an assisted living community, individuals receive services such as rental accommodation, hospitality services which typically includes lunch and dinner provided in a common dining space, weekly housekeeping, flat laundry services, social and recreational opportunities, a 24-hour emergency response system and personal care.

Assisted living is intended for seniors and those with physical disabilities. Through the Assisted Living Program, Fraser Health and BC Housing work together with assisted living providers to provide a subsidized assisted living program. The amount of rent paid is based on income. Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for the program. The program is accessed through the applicant's case manager.

Depending on your situation, you may choose to live in a private pay assisted living community. Private pay assisted living communities are private organizations and they charge market rate for accommodation and services. They are not funded or subsidized by Fraser Health and funding from the Fraser Health Assisted Living program is not transferable to private pay assisted living communities.

How do I apply for assisted living?

  • Admissions is the responsibility of Fraser Health; you do not need to contact a facility directly
  • If you are a current client of Home Health services, discuss your care needs with your current Case Manager
  • If you are not a current client, call your local Home Health and ask for an assessment
