Building amenities | We serve a continental breakfast, hot lunch and dinner daily, as well as afternoon and evening snacks. Everyone has access to coin-operated laundry facilities or a paid laundry service. Suites are cleaned weekly. Additional cleaning services are available for private purchase. |
Language, culture, religious affiliations | No on-site worship services are available. Freedom Place is not affiliated with any specific cultural, ethnic, or religious group. Rather, we welcome cultural diversity, and invite everyone to add their own backgrounds and preferences to our rich mosaic. |
Type of accommodation | 20 publicly subsidized units. Each unit has a two-burner hot plate and refrigerator. Residents provide their own furnishings. |
Cost | Residents pay 70% of their after-tax income which covers: 1) monthly rental accommodation; 2) hospitality services: two meals and two snacks daily, weekly housekeeping, flat laundry, etc.; 3) personal care; and 4) on-site emergency response system. Residents on income assistance pay a flat rate. Items not included as part of the monthly fee include: telephone, cable, hydro, personal laundry, household and toiletry supplies, medications, personal care products and insurance. |
Special recreation opportunities | A calendar of community outings and events is regularly posted and facilitated, but no transportation is provided. |
Accessibility | Residents must be able to move around in their own apartment with or without the use of mobility aids. Electric wheelchairs designed for indoor use may be permitted with pre-approval of the Executive Director. Scooters are permitted and must be parked in the owner’s suite. |
Pet policy | Pets are accommodated upon approval from the assisted living manager. Residents must sign a contract and provide a pet damage deposit. The assisted living manager must approve visiting pets prior to its first visit; dangerous pets are not welcome. |
Smoking policy | There is no smoking at the building or in any of the suites; an designated smoking area is available outdoors. |
Safety/security features | Each unit has a wireless, mobile, personal response system with hard-wired pull chords located in common areas. The building has 24-hour staffing, an emergency response panel and closed circuit TV monitoring at the main entrance. Entrances are self-locking and alarmed; access card is required to enter the building and key access is required to enter individual suites. |
Neighbourhood/community amenities | Transit, parks, shopping and restaurants are nearby. There is also easy access to New West Quay, Canada Games Pool, community centre, library, theatre and more. At-cost telephone, cablevision, Internet services; hairdressing services are available. |
Residence-specific restrictions | Offers hospitality and personal assistance services to young adults (aged 19 to 55 years of age) with physical disabilities. |
