The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program provides a health care environment that aids in minimizing further trauma to sexual assault patients. The objectives of the SANE Program are to meet the needs of both male and female sexual assault patients over the age of 13 by providing:

• Immediate, compassionate, culturally sensitive treatment by trained, professional nurse examiner
• Interaction in a neutral manner to help patients make an informed decision
• Offering comprehensive forensic evaluation (collection of evidence) 
• Expert or professional testimony in court trials as a witness
• Referral for follow-up care
