Working to improve the health of the population and the quality of life of the people we serve.
Personal service facilities are inspected to ensure compliance with the Regulated Activities Regulation under the Public Health Act and to determine if industry standard practices are being followed with respect to general sanitation, disinfection and infection control procedures for the specific type of service being offered. We do not inspect establishments that are registered with a professional association. For example:
Particular attention is paid to ensuring that disinfection and infection control requirements are being met in those facilities providing higher risk services, such as tattooing, piercing or other procedures where the skin is broken or penetrated. Environmental Health Officers also review safety procedures related to radiating devices such as those found in laser therapy and tanning facilities. In general, hazard ratings are assigned based on an assessment of hazards or conditions noted at the time of inspection.
