The department of Health Protection in Fraser Health is responsible for regulating and monitoring many public facilities and those aspects of the environment that have a direct impact on public health.
Environmental Health Services ensures that the Public Health Act, Drinking Water Protection Act, Tobacco Sales Act, Food Safety Act and associated regulations are met to protect the health and safety of the public in the following areas:
- Restaurants and food service facilities
- Public swimming pools and hot tubs
- Businesses providing personal services – such as beauty salons, barber and tattoo shops
- Drinking water supply systems
- Tobacco retail outlets
- Investigation of communicable disease cases and outbreaks
- Surveillance of West Nile virus
- Onsite sewage disposal systems
