Fraser Health' Smoke Free Property Policy

  • The sale and promotion of cigarettes and other tobacco products is not allowed on Fraser Health property. 
  • We are committed to promoting the health of our employees and citizens of the communities we serve.
  • Employees, physicians and volunteers who choose to smoke will ned to manage their tobacco addictions while at work as smoking is not allowed on Fraser Health property.
  • Patients will be offered Nicotine Replacement Therapy to help manage their nicotine addiction while in hospital.

What does the policy mean to patient, residents, clients, families and visitors at our sites?

  • Families, visitors and outpatients are asked to not smoke while on Fraser Health property.  Patients who are staying in hospital will be provided with a variety of supports to manage their nicotine addiction.
  • Most Mental Health and Addictions in-patient and out-patient programs are expected to have smoke free environments by March 31, 2009.
  • As residential facilities and hospices are the home of residents and clients, there are designated outdoor smoking areas at these facilities to protect smokers and non-smokers. Employees will not accompnay residents and clients to the smoking area.  These areas are for resident and client smoking only.
