Early Hearing Program
Bookmark and Share

Under the provincial BC Early Hearing Program (BCEHP) all newborns in Fraser Health can now have their hearing screened shortly after birth, either in hospitals or the community. In Fraser Health the program is offered in all of the birthing hospitals and in the eight public health units that have Audiological services.

Infants who do not exhibit a clear “pass” result on their screening will be referred for comprehensive hearing testing at a diagnostic site, of which there are four in Fraser Health.

If a child is found to have hearing loss, the BCEHP currently provides hearing aids and FM equipment as indicated and intervention and communication support services. The program is for ages of birth to five.

For more information on the BC Early Hearing Program, visit the BCEHP website.
