Pregnancy

Our prenatal registration program promotes healthy pregnancy outcomes

Bookmark and Share

Our public health nursing services provide prenatal services that promote healthy living and healthy pregnancy outcomes. Pregnant women are encouraged to register for the birth of their baby by 20 weeks gestation in order to receive information and, if needed, support from a public health nurse. In some communities you register at your local public health unit and in others at the local hospital.

Why a prenatal registration program?

To increase expectant womens' feeling of support and well-being during pregnancy and to decrease their risk factors.
How will our community benefit?

Health Promotion and Prevention services will encourage expectant women to register before the birth of their baby. Prenatal registration supports the woman’s health right from the time that she conceives, to promote improved maternal health, improved birth outcomes and continuity of care through the perinatal period.
What kinds of services can I access?

Prenatal registration offers women the ability to register for their baby’s birth, pick up Baby’s Best Chance, sign up for prenatal classes and receive support to meet their individual needs. These services range in topic from nutrition, alcohol and tobacco avoidance, sexual health, safety, immunization and more.
Where can my clients access this service?

Please contact your local public health unit to inquire when this service is accessible in your community.
At what stage of pregnancy should I register?

All pregnant women in our community are encouraged to register in the prenatal period by 18 to 20 weeks. This permits access to all prenatal health services promoting a healthier prenatal experience for mom and a healthier baby.
