Perinatal depression, more than just the "baby blues", is a clinical diagnosis with symptoms that can occur anytime from conception up to a year after a woman has given birth. As many as one in five women in BC experience significant depression related to pregnancy and childbirth. Risk Factors for Perinatal Depression:

If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, contact your health care provider. Physicians and midwives will screen for perinatal depression at 28-32 weeks. If you have not had this screening talk to your health care provider. Contact your local public health unit for more information.
