Menno Hospital is a secure home designed to provide a safe environment for residents in three unique living areas with a one-acre secure courtyard on an 11.5 acre campus of care.

We accomplish our mission through dedicated and compassionate staff, inter-disciplinary teams, vibrant volunteers, engagement with residents and family, visionary leadership, exceptional events, supportive pastoral care and our Life Enrichment Program.

Located on a campus-of-care, Menno Place (Menno Home, Menno Hospital and Menno Apartments) supports spouses living in separate levels of housing/care. Palliative care and pastoral care have a special emphasis. With a Life Enrichment Coordinator, there is an added level of caregiver support as residents and loved ones navigate the transition to residential care. The campus has 22 special care beds for dementia.

Menno Hospital has 151 publicly subsidized residential care beds consisting of 59 single occupancy, 43 double occupancy and two multiple occupancy rooms.

Features

Room features and personalization Basics include an electric bed, a bedside table and dresser and all required linens. Each room has a closet, toilet and sink.

Residents may bring a TV and additional furniture such as a small chair, chest of drawers, lamp, computer and plants. Pictures and wall hangings are encouraged. High-definition television are wi-fi are available. 
Accessibility Menno Hospital is completely wheelchair accessible. Basic wheelchairs are provided free of charge. Residents requiring custom-fit wheelchairs/ walkers must purchase separately.
Security Lighted grounds, lighted parking lot, controlled access on all exterior doors, voice call bells at beside and bathrooms, “wandering” alert system, exterior video surveillance, night security, full fire detection and suppression system throughout the building, secure courtyard, and lovely fountains.
Smoking Smoking is not permitted in the building, however a covered, outdoor space is provided for residents’ use.
Location information  Menno Hospital is located directly north of the Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Center. It is located two blocks from Mill Lake Park and 2.6 kms from Seven Oaks Shopping Centre. It is easily accessible from the Trans Canada Highway.
Additional site features Menno Hospital is located on an 11.5 acre campus of care which includes Menno Home with 196 residential care residents; Terrace East – 96 Assisted Living suites; The Apartments – 220 Independent Living suites. Two chapels provide space for spiritual and recreational activities. The grounds include a putting green, lawn bowling pitch and three beautiful fountain gardens. In winter, a Christmas light walk is enjoyed by residents and families. The one-acre secure courtyard has a beautiful circle walk, water fountains and landscaped gardens.
Parking and transportation Easy accessibility through the public transit bus system and Handydart; taxi service. A free family parking pass is provided to each resident upon arrival for visitors to use.  Additional parking is available for an hourly rate.

Programs

Social and recreation programs  Social, recreation, leisure and activity programs are provided seven days a week. Residents enjoy many opportunities including: outings, music, events, chapel services and an annual classic car show. The annual Butterfly Release, Remembrance Day service and Grandparent’s Day Fair are highlights. Concert in Care is a monthly concert provided by professional musicians. Recreation includes Java music therapy, walking program, two Duet bikes and regular bus trips.
Spiritual program Since 1960, Menno Hospital has been operated by the Mennonite Benevolent Society, a Christian organization that values peace, service and compassionate care for others. Menno Hospital embraces diversity. We value: service, excellence, respect, values-driven, innovation, compassion and encouragement. Chaplains, spiritual support, interdenominational worship, chapel services and hymn sing are available for all who choose to take part. The Chapel seats 115 people and features a piano, media equipment and a stage. Our palliative care approach recognizes the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each resident. The passing quilt provides a tangible gesture of care that honors a resident’s passing and helps loved ones in their time of mourning. 
Pets Many community guests bring their pets for regular visits. Volunteer pet therapists visit on a regular basis, bringing dogs, miniature horses, reptiles, birds and cats.
Medical assistance in dying On-site assessment available. Menno Place provides assessments related to MAiD upon request. We will facilitate an eligible resident’s transfer to an organization where MAiD is provided.

Foot and nail care On-site foot-care nurse. Fee for service.
Additional services A mobile dental team visits regularly (fee or service). An occupational therapist and a music therapist provide additional support along with library visits (no fee). Resident council, Family & Friends weekly email newsletter enhance communication.

Clients must meet Home and Community Care requirements and criteria for admission. A health care needs assessment will be completed to confirm eligibility. See website for more information.

Referral

Referral by case manager at a Home and Community Care office is required. To access service call the Home Health Service Line for more information; do not contact the care home directly.

Fees

There is a monthly accommodation fee; additional fees may apply for incidental services.
